Replenishing Our Power and Speaking Out with Theresa Robinson

“Blaxhaustion” is the term my friend Theresa Robinson has coined. If you’re black or brown, you already know what it means. If you’re white–trust me, you need to know.

Handling microaggressions on- and offline is exhausting, and there’s a lot we can learn from Theresa about the power of activating a community of allies vs engaging with detractors directly.

The online community Theresa has activated on LinkedIn is awe-inspiring. Being a part of it gives me hope and nourishment. I want to live in the world that looks and feels like the one she has built online. But don’t take my word for it–connect with Theresa on LinkedIn and join in great conversations in a diverse circle of people who respect one another, learn from and uplift one another–in a collective effort to make the world a better place for all.

Theresa and I connected when we were both working on our books, plenty busy, so it took us a minute to actually get to talk. And when we did I learned that Theresa had quoted my work on Patriarchy Stress Disorder in her book! I’m so honored. Especially since her book is so good and deals with the topic close to my heart–well-being and self-advocacy for women.

Theresa is a renowned speaker and coach and her new book is a playbook, created to help women take time for themselves, own their well-being, and step into their true power. It was an absolute joy to have this conversation with her.

We talk about:

  • microaggressions and intersectionality

  • how patriarchy creates frustration, fatigue, and exhaustion

  • how trauma has disconnected all of us from the wholeness of who we are

  • the need for empathy and listening around collective and historical trauma

  • how reconciliation works and stages of readiness; how to small step our way towards reconciliation while protecting ourselves

  • how to replenish your power, activate your allies, and build true community

  • Theresa shares an enlightening example for creating relationships that allow for understanding and a true exchange of information

  • the importance of diversity in our relationships and the groups and communities we create

  • the importance of taking care of ourselves, speaking up, and speaking out (particularly for women who are conditioned to put themselves last)

  • how her choice to collaborate with nine other women on her book allows women to plug in with the person who resonates with them the most

  • Theresa shares her 3-D method for getting traction in your personal and professional life
