How to Be Authentic, Become Visible, and Make an Impact with Media Expert Paula Rizzo

Media trainer and acclaimed producer Paula Rizzo has been working in media for more than 20 years. Her clients include high-profile men and women, so she is well suited to talk with me about how women show up differently in the media space, and how she helps her clients make the invisible visible, share more, and make more of an impact. In this episode, she even shares some excellent pro tips anyone can use to create dynamic video.

After all, it’s so hard to change what you can’t see. It’s so helpful to have a nonjudgmental outside eye to help us consider our blindspots. Paula is that for her clients – kindly examining the way they present to the world so they can put their very best foot forward.

In this episode Paula and I cover a lot, including:

  • imposter syndrome, fear of rejection, and how PSD affects women in media’s visibility

  • how media standards for women are different (higher) than those for men

  • the specific interplay of success and likability for women

  • how PSD has created defenses in women that make them not want to put themselves out there, be self-promotional, and share their insights

  • how women can succeed in media and messaging by working with their internal defenses and by staying in their zones of genius

  • how subconscious fears manifest themselves in our feelings and behavior, leading us to play small and shy from the spotlight

  • how we can make unconscious stories we’re telling ourselves conscious so we can explore alternatives, so – perhaps – desires can become stronger than fears

  • how to tap into connection, authenticity, intimacy, and intentionality through media, particularly video
